SAUNA ETIQUETTE

Sauna and decor at Community Sauna London

Need to know:

  1. Shower before you plunge. Please rinse off your sweat, it helps keep the plunges fresh for everyone.

  2. Ask before you put water on the stones. And please pause in between ladles. It can take some time for the heat to have an effect.

  3. Please sit on a towel in the sauna. Bring two towels with you - one to sit on, and one to dry yourself.

  4. This is a phone-free zone. Please do not bring your phone inside the sauna. You are welcome to take pictures outside; however, always ask for consent in advance.

  5. This is a sober space. The closest we’ve got to alcohol here is the whisky barrel plunges. Please refrain from drinking alcohol, drugs, smoking, and vaping.

  6. Only our aromatherapy ices can be used on the sauna rocks. The misuse of essential oils can affect other customers' safety. Please ask the staff for more info.

  7. (Hackney only) Toplessness is optional for all genders. Please be covered from the waist down. This rule only applies to our Hackney site, all other sites currently require breasts to be covered.

How to treat others:

  1. Don’t comment on people's bodies and tattoos. Even comments that you think are compliments might not be taken that way by someone else. Think of another way to have a conversation with someone that doesn’t involve talking about their body.

  2. This area is a non-sexual space, please refrain from engaging or encouraging this kind of behaviour. No intimate contact or kissing

  3. Do not stare, and be mindful of personal boundaries to create a relaxing and welcoming environment for everyone.

  4. Do not assume people's gender. If you don’t know what pronouns someone uses, ask them first.

  5. Respect others’ right to peace and quiet - be aware of the volume, tone, and type of conversations you are having in the sauna. Do not play amplified music from your phone or your own speaker.

  6. The sauna space is a place intended for people to relax and recuperate. Keep this in mind while communicating in the sauna.

  7. Although chatting, storytelling, and even singing is encouraged within the saunas, be mindful of the atmosphere within the sauna and consider others’ needs.

  8. If you want to take a photo, please make sure you ask people around you and do so quietly and considerately.

  9. We are a wifi-free space, we encourage you to interact with other bathers more than your phone.

  10. Most of all, we hope you enjoy yourself!
