Our Story
Our story, our purpose
In 2021, we came together as a group of sauna enthusiasts with a vision to bring a community sauna to London. From different backgrounds, we all shared a passion for sauna, and all recognised that there was nowhere in London that you could experience authentic sauna, for an affordable price. We wanted to create something that was focused on community and had a genuine purpose, a not-for-profit that would bring affordable, inclusive and authentic sauna to Londoners.
Since firing up our first stove, things have grown in ways we couldn’t have imagined, and our team has evolved. Our core team of directors is just two now, with our original team who contributed so much, having gone in different and sauna-related directions. We now have outdoor saunas in Hackney, Stratford, Camberwell, Peckham, Bermondsey — and soon, Walthamstow.
We run it all as a not-for-profit Community Interest Company (CIC), because access matters to us. We wanted to create inclusive, sober, and welcoming spaces, making the proven benefits of sauna and cold plunge available to as many people as possible. In a society driven by technology and consumption, with screen addiction running rampant and a loneliness epidemic affecting millions, our mission is to create spaces where people connect, are in touch with their bodies and can enjoy the simple pleasure of hot and cold.
All profit goes back into the community, covering free and low-cost sessions for NHS workers, low-income local residents, and grassroots groups. It also helps us maintain and grow our sites, run events at cost, and partner with healthcare providers to offer free sessions through the UK’s first-ever social prescribing sauna programme.
Our vision is big. We believe every community in the UK needs access to communal sauna bathing facilities for the health, wellbeing and recreational benefits - and we are just getting started!

Social Prescribing & Outreach
At Community Sauna Baths, we believe that everyone should have access to warmth, rest, and connection, especially those facing health challenges or barriers to wellbeing.
Through our social prescribing and outreach programme, we partner with NHS teams, GPs, and local organisations to offer fully funded sauna and cold plunge sessions to those who need them most.
Each referral includes:
a 10-session sauna package
access to special events and group sessions
a welcome cup of tea
optional support with swimwear, booking help, and companion tickets for those with mobility or access needs
We've already welcomed over 250+ individuals through the programme and continue to work with an amazing network of local partners to expand access.
We also operate Sauna for Community, providing tailored group sessions in collaboration with charities and community groups, many of which are gender-specific, culturally sensitive, and designed around participants’ needs. Transportation and accessible facilities are provided to help everyone participate.
